Green Room

Welcome to the Green Room at Westminster Lutheran Preschool We provide a welcoming, fun, and stimulating environment for your child to learn and grow by teaching them to be independent, build a healthy self esteem and a foundation for later learning.

Parent Board-
Above the counter is the Parent Board. School messages, calendars, and holiday sign-ups are posted on the Parent Board. Sometimes educational articles are posted for you to read.

Daily Parent Board-
Everyday the board above the sign-in sheet will tell you a general description of the activities that occurred during the day. This allows you an opportunity to talk with your child about the activities of the day, to see what we did for the day, and to see future. activities for the week.

Daily News-
Everyday you will receive a paper that will tell you the activities your child participated in, what and when they ate, and when they went potty or had their diaper changed. This paper gives more specific information than the Daily Parent Board.

Medications-
Medicine forms are to be fIlled out by the parents. They are located on the board next to the Parent Board. We put the refrigerated medicines in the medicine box in the Staff room.

Art Folder-
Every child has an art folder located on the counter in the gray crate. Please check daily and take home your child's art work.

Signing In & Out-
It is required by law that your child be signed in and out everyday. The school insurance doesn't cover your child unless they are signed in.

Extra Clothing-
Your child will get dirty at school. The dirtier they get the more fun and learning they have experienced. Please don't send your child to school in crotch buttoning or one piece outfits because it makes it difficult for the child to go potty on their own. Please write your child's name on all clothing with a permanent marker.

Holidays-
For major holidays we usually have a class party. There will be a sign-up sheet for goodies posted on the Parent Board about a week before the party. There is no obligation to sign up. If you or your family would like to talk to the class about a special holiday in your family we would love to learn about it.

Nap Time-
Please bring a crib sized sheet and a blanket for nap time with your child's name on it. Sheets are sent home at the end of the week for washing and returned by the parents on Monday.

Breakfast and Lunch-
The school provides morning breakfast and afternoon snack. Lunch and drink is provided by the parents.

Chapel-
We have Chapel every Wednesday at 10:30 with the Blue Room in the church. We pray, sing bible songs, learn to respect God's house, and learn Bible stories.

The Classroom-
The open shelves allow the children to play and clean-up the toys by themselves. Play dough, markers, crayons, scissors, stencils, and paper are always available to the children to make pictures, practice cutting, and develop small muscle skills that are necessary for writing later. Art is displayed around the room. Each child has a special spot on the big bulletin board for their art to be displayed.

The Circle-
Circle time is usually about 10 - 20 minutes depending on the children. We read books, listen to and watch flannel board stories, learn about colors, animals, shapes, foods, feelings and other subjects. We have a helper name board that has four helpers: Line Leader, Weather Helper, Teacher Helper, and Calendar Helper. Everyone has a name card and they find their names and put them on the helper board. The children have a choice to be a helper or just put their name on the board. We sing lots of songs. Most of the songs have puppets or hand motions that go along with the songs. For circle time we sit on the special pictures on the floor. The pictures are changed about every 2 - 3 weeks. We believe in redirecting the children or taking them out of a situation instead of time outs. Children are taught to respect other children's things, to share, to take turns to touch the other children gently, to use a quiet voice inside, to sit down when we eat, to treat the toys gently, to care for animals and plants, to care for other children, to respect other children and teachers, and to resolve conflicts with our words and not our hands.
